Czasowniki dynamiczne opisują czynności, procesy lub stany niezakończone, trwające w pewnym okresie czasu. Mają one swój zdefiniowany początek i koniec. Czasowniki dynamiczne wyrażają zarówno czynności odbywające się w danym momencie, przez pewien czas jak również czynności regularne w teraźniejszości, przeszłości lub przyszłości. Dlatego mogą występować zarówno w czasach ciągłych (continuous), jak i prostych (simple).

Action verbs describe incomplete actions or states in progress at a specific time. They have a definite beginning and end. Dynamic verbs can express actions happening at a given time, for a period of time or on a regular basis in the present, past or future. Therefore, they may be used both in continuous and simple tenses.

Czasowniki statyczne
State/Stative Verbs
* Wyróżnia się trzy główne typy czasowników dynamicznych: accomplishment verbs (czasowniki wyrażające czynności, które mają logiczne zakończenie), achievement verbs (dziejące się natychmiastowo) i activity verbs (czynnosci, które mogą trwać przez bliżej nieokreślony czas).

*There are three major types of dynamic verbs:  accomplishment verbs (expressing action that has a logical endpoint), achievement verbs (expressing action that occurs instantaneously), and  activity verbs (expressing action that can go on for an indefinite period of time).
Czasowniki statyczne używane są do opisywania emocji, uczuć, opinii, preferencji, zmysłów, potrzeb i stanów posiadania. Rzadko występują w formie progresywnej (ciągłej) - z końcówką -ing. Jeśli występują ich znaczenie ulega zmianie lub opisują one stany wyłącznie tymczasowe.

Stative verbs are used to describe states such as emotions, feelings, thinking, preferences, senses, needs and possession. They do not usually have a continuous form. If so, there is always a change in meaning.

Zmysły (Senses): hear, see, smell, taste, feel
Opinie (Thinking): consider, think, expect, believe, feel (=think), agree, doubt etc.
Uczucia i emocje (Feelings/Emotions): like, love, hate, detest, abhor, loathe, forgive, mind, wish etc.
Inne (Other): own/posses, have (=posses), belong, be, appear/seem, owe etc.
Appear, agree, assume, be, believe, belong, comprehend, consider, consist, contain, cost, depend, detest, doubt, exist, feel, fit, hate, hear, have (=posses), have to, hope, know, like, love, matter, mean, need, owe, own, posses, prefer, realise, remember, resemble, see, seem, smell, suppose, suspect, taste, think, understand, want, weigh, wish

Inny podział klasyfikuje czasowniki dynamiczne na tzw.:

Activity Verbs: run, walk, play, read, watch, look at, listen to, shout, write, refuse etc.
The vast majority of verbs are included in this class and are what we normally understand an 'action'
word to be.
Process Verbs: change, strengthen, widen, grow, become, die, go, come, fall. This class of verbs is
used to indicate a change from one state to another.
Sensation: hurt, ache, sting, smart, itch. This is a small class of verbs that are used to refer to bodily
sensations.
Momentary: knock, beat, tap, nod, hop, jump. These verbs, although closely related to the first
category, have a shorter duration of action.
